Additional Things to Know about Day Camp at Mo

What to Bring

Your camper should be dressed appropriately for the weather.
We will be outside most of the day and very active.
We also plan to get dirty so please dress your children in play clothes.
Please make sure to label all of your camper’s belongings.

Daily:
Please have your camper bring supplies in a back pack or beach bag so we can keep things together easily.

  • Dress in play clothes; t-shirts provide better protection from the sun than tank tops
  • Sturdy tennis shoes, sandals (like Chacos or Tevas) that have a back strap, or lightweight hiking boots. Crocs may be worn with the back strap, however, cannot be worn when at the ropes course or in the water. Please bring water shoes or sandals with a back strap for the river and other water activities.
  • Bathing suit and beach towel – if your child is sensitive to the sun, provide a t-shirt to wear while swimming.
  • Rain coat or wind breaker as needed
  • Sturdy water bottle

Monday:
On Monday, please bring the following in a disposable bag or grocery bag to be kept at camp all week.

  • One complete change of clothes for those unexpected accidents
  • Pair of water shoes, sandals with a heel strap, or old tennis shoes for playing in the water (no “Crocs” please)

Additional suggested items:

  • Ball cap or sun hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen appropriate for your child

Please do not bring:

  • Electronic games, cell phones, or iPods
  • Pocket knives, matches, fireworks
  • Money
  • Personal toys that you wouldn’t want lost or broken

Note:
All personal items brought to camp are the responsibility of the owner.
Mo-Ranch will attempt to locate items left behind, but cannot guarantee retrieval of lost personal belongings.

Transportation

Your camper will be picked up and delivered based on the schedule listed below. Anyone picking up a camper may be asked to show photo identification and must be listed on the Day Camp release form. If any changes in the schedule occur, a Mo-Ranch staff person will call the parent/legal guardian to inform them of the changes. If your camper will be picked up from Mo-Ranch earlier than the normal schedule, Camp staff must be notified in writing prior to the early departure.

If you are providing transportation for your camper, please plan on checking him/her in no later than 8:45am and checking him/her out no later than 4:45pm each day. You must check-in/check-out your camper at the Youth Plaza.

Transportation Safety Rules:

  1. Do not approach or depart a vehicle unless the Camp Staff has made sure the traffic is clear and it is safe.
  2. Wait until the vehicle has come to a full stop and the engine is turned off. Enter and exit vehicles only through the appropriate doors.
  3. Load only the approved number of passengers for that vehicle.
  4. All passengers must wear seat belts at all times.
  5. Passengers will behave respectfully while in the vehicle, which includes staying seated at all times, no rough housing, keeping voices down and following all directions from the staff.
  6. When departing a vehicle, go directly to the area specified by the staff and wait patiently.
  7. In the case of an accident or emergency, stay calm and follow the directions of the staff. Do not exit the vehicle unless told to do so by the staff or a policeman, firefighter, or other safety personnel.
Food
Nutrition matters here at Mo-Ranch. Meals are carefully selected and prepared daily by our culinary staff, and a hot lunch will be served community style from our summer food truck at the Youth Plaza!

Campers will also get two snacks a day. The snacks will vary and may include fruit, crackers and chips (no candy).

If your camper has any specific dietary needs, please make sure to note them on their health form, i.e. vegetarian, peanut allergy, etc. Please do not send any food or snacks for your camper unless necessary for medical reasons.

Health
If your camper needs to take any over-the-counter medications on a regular basis, or prescription medication during their session, please hand it to the staff member driving the bus at pick up. The medication must be in its original packaging with a written note of dosages and times or original prescription label. Medication given will be logged and packages returned daily if necessary. At no time will campers be allowed to store or administer their own medication.

Campers will be given an ear drop solution of alcohol, vinegar, and water after all aquatic activities. Please make a note on the health form if your camper should not receive these drops.

Parents or guardians will be notified immediately in case of any major illness or injury to their camper. Any minor illnesses or injuries will be noted when your camper is dropped off. Please do not send your child to camp if they are feeling ill. We will not accept campers who have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher and request they not return to camp until they have held a normal temperature for at least 24 hours. Any camper who develops a temperature of 100 degrees or higher during the day will be isolated in our infirmary under the supervision of our Camp Health Manager until the parent can pick them up or it is time to go home on the bus.

Behavior

All children will be oriented to our behavior and safety rules on their first day of camp.

Counselors are trained to handle behavior problems with positive reinforcement, redirection, time outs and consequences appropriate to the camper’s actions and age level.

Should a camper exhibit repeated episodes of disruptive, unsafe or violent behavior that is not corrected with positive behavior management, their parents or guardians will be asked to pick the camper up from Mo-Ranch at that time.

If the problem continues the next day, the child will be sent home and not allowed to return to camp. No refunds will be given under these circumstances.

Gift Shop
Campers who are not with their families will have an opportunity to visit the Gift Shop on Friday.

This is the only day your camper should bring money to camp.

Please put the money in an envelope or zip-lock baggie with the amount and their name written on it. If parents are coming for Family Fun Day, please take this opportunity to visit the Gift Shop with your camper to purchase souvenirs, T-shirts, and books.

Rain
Rain at Day CampMost activities will continue in light rain and alternative activities will be offered in our indoor facilities in case of heavy rains or thunderstorms.

In case of flooding, the alternative route home, FM 1340 to Hwy 41 to Hwy 27, will be used.  This route will add approximately 20-30 minutes of drive time.  Parents or guardians will be notified if this alternate route will be taken with the subsequent schedule changes.

Refund Policy
A $40 non-refundable, non-transferrable deposit is required for each session to hold your child’s spot.

The deposit is due at least four weeks prior to each session. Refunds of the balance of the registration fee are given only at the discretion of the Camp Director. No refunds will be given for children who are asked to leave due to inappropriate behavior.

A doctor’s note will be needed when making a refund request due to illness or injury.

Leadership

Our summer staff is carefully and intentionally selected. Many are former campers and returning counselors. All of our counselors are Christian role models for campers.

Counselors go through a rigorous background check, receive specific training in child behavior management, age level expectations, safety and emergency procedures and child abuse prevention. They are all first aid and CPR certified, with most also being lifeguard certified. All aquatic activities will be under the supervision of certified Lifeguards.

Not only are our Counselors fun and enthusiastic, but more importantly, they are young adults who are fully invested in the well-being and happiness of your camper.
