Catwalk

Catwalk

Panoramic views of the Texas Hill Country. This one-of-a-kind 45’ high catwalk was built in 1941 by the former ranch owner and wealthy oilman, Dan Moran. Mr. Moran built the catwalk to win a bet of three oil wells. He accepted a bet that he could not complete the walk within 60 working days- he actually completed it in 38 working days. This was fairly simple since he had an unlimited supply of oil pipe from Conoco and unlimited workers. A popular activity with visitors is to spell out messages with rocks that can be viewed from the catwalk. Rappelling activities from the catwalk are available for groups through our outdoor education department.

Nature

Holm Garden

Helen and George Holm Family Wildflower Meadow

The Holm Family Wildflower Meadow was established in the spring of 2015 and is comprised of native Texas plants and wildflowers. The native plants and flowers located along the path of the meadow were carefully selected for educational use for Mo-Ranch guests. The path is attracting rare species of birds and butterflies, including monarchs, painting buntings and many others!

Greenhouse

The Mo-Ranch “greenhouse” was relocated to the ranch by the former ranch owner, Dan Moran. It was dismantled and flown here by his private pilots for his enjoyment. The greenhouse is a quiet place to meditate and provides a nice shady space to retreat to in the summertime.
