Camper Health & Safety
At Mo-Ranch, camper and staff safety are our top priority. We conduct a health screening for each camper on arrival day. We have a licensed nurse on staff each year to address all medical needs, and a well-stocked health center is on-site. In cases requiring additional care, campers can be seen by Peterson Urgent Care, or our camp doctor in Kerrville or, in emergencies, taken to Peterson Regional Medical Center.
Our counselors are extensively trained in safety, emergency procedures, and child abuse prevention prior to the arrival of campers. Roughly half of our summer staff are lifeguard certified, and we also train counselors in Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED.
For campers with pre-existing conditions, families are responsible for providing ongoing medications and covering associated costs. Campers with asthma, EpiPens, or diabetes need to have an action plan from our physician that they can share with our health care team.
All prescription medications must be in their original packaging with proper labeling and a Request for Medication Administration Form signed by your child’s doctor. We suggest that campers taking behavior modification medications continue their regimen at camp and to have been on their current dosage for at least one month prior to arrival.
Parents or guardians will be notified by phone of any major illnesses or injuries.
For more detailed information, please consult the Camp Planning Guide, which is released each spring for enrolled camp families. Feel free to contact our camp directors or registrar with additional questions.
