charlie-becker2017 spring painting retreat leader, Charlie Becker

Charlie started painting in 1968 after serving in the army. After six or seven years of painting and taking art courses at Del Mar College in C.C. Texas, he began to study with Dick Turner in painting in oil. He now paints in a variety of painting mediums such as oil, acrylic and watercolor. His subjects often include landscapes, seascapes, old buildings, cars, wildlife, southwest motifs, murals and rock art.

Charlie continued his studies at Pan American University, completing a B.A. in history and a minor in art. He then completed a masters degree in interdisciplinary studies in 1988 at Pan American and taught art at Lufkin Middle School for eleven years. He is currently retired from teaching and now owns Becker Art Studio with his wife, Adell. Their studio in downtown Lufkin is a working art studio where they host painting classes and specialize in one-of-a-kind art and handmade jewelry.
