Designed for artists of any skill level who would like to dive in and dedicate their workshop time to plein air painting.
Experienced artists, come and create while being surrounded by a nurturing community of artists over the course of a relaxing week in the beautiful outdoor setting of Mo-Ranch.
Leisure artists or beginners, come and create while being guided through the course of this retreat by this year’s retreat leader, Charlie Becker.
What’s special about this outdoor painting retreat at Mo-Ranch?
– Everything! Mo-Ranch is the perfect outdoor setting for a quiet time to create, relax and be inspired.
– Instructor-led class time will be available for perfecting and improving your artwork. Each day you will complete a painting while being guided by a professional artist. Charlie’s expertise lies primarily in oils and acrylics. Oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels or other painting mediums are all welcome.
-Scenic landscapes and architectural landmarks are abundant at Mo-Ranch. Visuals include historical buildings and mansions, nature, wildflowers, views of the crystal-clear Guadalupe River and so much more.

Double hotel room occupancy: $455
Single hotel room occupancy: $625
Commuter rate: $250 (excludes housing at Mo-Ranch, includes tuition, lunch and dinner during the retreat)
Costs of three nights of lodging, 8 meals, tuition, supplies and meeting spaces are all included with retreat pricing.
A $75.00 deposit must accompany registration. The balance of all fees will be due 60 days prior to the start of the event, or upon registration if within 60 days full payment is required at the time of registration. Full refund less $75.00 administrative fee per person will be made if cancellation is received more than 30 days prior to the conference. There are generally no refunds for cancellations received on or after 30 days prior to the start of the event nor any applying of the deposit toward other charges or future deposits.
Mo-Ranch is 90 miles one-way, or a 2-hour drive from the nearest airport (SAT), allow 3 hours travel/check-in time for departures. We recommend generally scheduling arriving flights before 3 p.m. and departing flights after 3 p.m. to be sure you do not miss any of your event.
If you are in need of shuttle service to Mo-Ranch, call Kars for Hire in Kerrville at (830) 890-8200 at least 15 days in advance to arrange transportation from San Antonio International Airport.
What supplies and other items should I bring?
Here is a list of recommended items from this year’s instructor:
- Outdoor easel
- Your preferred painting medium (oil, acrylic or watercolor)
- Paint brushes
- Paper towels
- Water for acrylic, or thinner for oil paint
- Canvas or paper
- Container to wash brushes
- Camera to photograph painting subject/area (cellphone cameras with an LED screen are sufficient)
You may want to bring a Bible, notebook, flashlight, comfortable walking shoes, casual clothing, tennis equipment, swimsuit, water shoes, rain gear, camera, lidded cup or mug, sunscreen and insect repellent.
