“How to write your autobiography or family history, one story at a time.”

Nestled in the beautiful wide-open spaces of the Texas Hill Country, this new writing retreat at Mo-Ranch offers writing sessions in the morning and afternoon, group discussions, creative writing fuel, worship and recreation.

Writing workshops will build your confidence as you transform memories into short narratives and share your stories with others. The retreat leader, Catherine Colvin, will share tips for starting your own story-sharing group and finding your own writing topics. Click the leadership tab to learn more about Catherine.

Catherine Colvin taught high school English classes for 15 years, but she freely admits that she probably spent too much time telling stories in the classroom. To that end, after she finished teaching, she began giving talks in and around Austin, TX that wove together family stories with spiritual stories.

She has now begun writing these stories down and would like to share them with you. Catherine’s main goal for this retreat is to inspire you to write down your stories too! With her extensive teaching experience, she can ease you into writing activities without the dreaded “blank page” moments and provide you with different ways to organize your thoughts.

In our post “letter-writing” era, the memoir is an essential and valuable way to pass down family information. But, the memoir is also a way for you to learn about yourself as revealed on the page.

As a way to begin, she offers you the opportunity to bring a family letter to share, if you wish. Catherine is extremely excited to be leading this retreat and cannot wait to see you at Mo-Ranch!
