The Polar Bear Challenge is a New Year’s Day event that is held annually at Mo-Ranch to raise money for a good cause. Participating sliders will brave sliding down a 35-foot-high, 116-foot-long water slide, straight into the icy waters of the Guadalupe River. Presbyterian Mo-Ranch Assembly is proud to announce Kerr County Young Life as the 2017 Mo-Ranch Polar Bear Challenge recipient!

The mission of Kerr County Young Life is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith. Young Life has seven active ministries under Kerr County Young Life, including Kerrville Young Life, Ingram Young Life, Kerrville Wyldlife, Ingram Wyldlife, YoungLives, Kerr County Alumni & Friends and Campaigners. The funds raised during the Polar Bear event will help to ensure that Young Life can continue to make youth trips affordable for every kid that wants to participate.

“We are extremely grateful and excited to be the beneficiary of the Mo-Ranch Polar Bear Challenge,” said Josh Smithson, Kerr County Young Life Area Director. “We give away $25,000 or more each year in camp scholarships so that every child in Kerr County that wants to attend Young Life, Wyldlife, or YoungLives Camp is able to do so.”

Nearly $200,000 to-date has been raised to support local non-profits from this event. All funds raised from the Polar Bear Challenge will directly benefit the challenge recipient. Previous Polar Bear Challenge beneficiaries include Partners in Ministry, Christian Women’s Job Corps, Star Ranch, Hill Country CARES, Hill Country College Fund, Christian Assistance Ministry, Kid’s Advocacy Place, Habitat for Humanity, K-Star, BCFS Health and Human Services, Kerr County United Way and The Salvation Army of Kerrville.

Awards will be given to individual and team competitors who are the largest fundraisers. Additional awards will include the crowning of the Polar Bear King and Queen and event awards for the longest slider, biggest splash, slider farthest from home, oldest polar bear and best costume.
